Project Idea or Description:
Artificial intelligence systems are created by applying machine learning, deep learning, neural networks, computer vision, natural language processing and other related tools. AI is rapidly being applied in a variety of fields including science, education, business, and healthcare. It is becoming one of the most significant technologies ever created by humans as demonstrated through Watson by IBM and recently in the ChatGPT and related applications by OpenAI. Creating and using advanced AI application systems for the benefit of communities and individual citizens requires a multidisciplinary approach where people from a wide range of fields and background contribute to their design, development, testing, deployment, and evaluation. Therefore, faculty and college students, with diverse majors, need to be knowledgeable of AI as well as contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, and evaluation of these use-inspired and advanced AI application systems. Furthermore, they need to understand the legal, privacy and ethical issues as well as their major positive and negative impacts on individuals, organizations, and society now and in the future. There is also a need to improve usability and accessibility of AI apps, our understanding of biases learned by AI systems and develop a framework to mitigate these biases and their impacts on humanity in general and under-represented and underserved minority communities specifically.
How will this idea advance broadening participation in computing?
By allowing the particpation student and faculty in all majors to have an opportunity to be engaged in AI and its applications instruction and research.

A resource or asset that would be very valuable to add to my project:
Access to IT infrastructure to support AI research and instructions as well experts in large lanaguage model (LLM) based AI systems, HPC, and Cloud computing.
