My Project Goal:
This project will focus on using a single modern programming language -- JavaScript to introduce a plethora of CS applications and technologies. The idea is to future-proof the skills acquired and to enable a wide variety of skills/technologies using a single programming language.
Project Working Title:
Developing Learning Modules, Programming Kits, University Courses and RPPs
Project Idea or Description:
This project will design and develop programming kits along with open-source modular learning material to teach basic to intermediate Computer Science and Computational Thinking content. This proposal outlines research and development of university curriculum to train existing/future STEM-C teachers using these learning materials. The grant will also provide professional development of existing high school teachers and facilitate a Researcher-Practitioner Partnerships (RPP) involving University Researchers, Graduate Student Researchers. The work can be easily extended to include High School(HS) Teachers, and Citizen Scientists.
How will this idea advance broadening participation in computing?
All deliverables of the project can be used by educators and students with a simple laptop. Any additional hardware needed are off-the-shelf, cheap and can be bought online.
